How to use timer?

Postby jsteenbuck » Wed Jan 21, 2009 4:11 pm

Hi there, we've been using GO 2.x Community for quite some time and just thought about making the switch to the Pro version, so I set up a test account and went to poke at it.

What I can't figure out is how to use the timer for projects. This has been a very important feature for us; whenever someone starts working on a project, she or he will start the timer in GO2 and stop it when having finished.

How is it supposed to work in GO3? I don't have the slightest idea; I see the "start timer" item in projects, I select a project... and then? There's no start/stop button... Can you point me in the right direction, anyone?

There is no timer function in GO3 yet.

Hey Merijn,

ah, okay, I see.

But when you say "yet" - does that mean it will be there? And if so - can you make a guess as to when that might be available?

I have to admit we'll base our decision whether to switch to GO3 Professional or not on the availability of that feature since it's essential for our workflow...

I've just purchased GO 3 by viewing your features video.

In your demo video, you have gant-chart, time tracking and so on.
Now, you said it's an old video...but...

Can your project module track time ? if yes, please teach me how !!

There never was a Gantt chart in the video! Time tracking is there through the "Time tracking" menu option.

The thing that is missing from 2.x is that you could clock in and clock out to register time. It's a bit hard to implement now because it just registers units and not a start and end time.

@jsteenbuck:
Can the clock in function work that way, it would register just units and not a starting and end time?

Hello,

My bad about gantt-chart...you're right..there is no gantt-chant...
What i referred is the milestone. I used the wrong word...
Well, it's still misleading us..but quite accecptable that you said you moved it to sub-project instead.

For Time Tracking, yes i saw the Time Tracking Menu...
but how can I input the time ? I just cannot find any input button or something to insert time?

I have one more question about timer...

The unit that we input. Is it in time format or number format?
For example, is 6.15 means 6 hours 15 minutes or 6.15 hour (which is 6 hour and 9 minutes).

Thanks

It's in number format.

This way it can also be used for travel kilometres, materials etc.

Clocking in and out is a major feature we use in GO2 .. I was looking to upgrade but without this feature, it's pretty much a show stopper for us I'm afraid.

Do you think you will implement this again in the future?
