Group-Office 4.1 released!

We're proud to announce version 4.1! This version comes with an enhanced calendar. The invitation system has been greatly improved. Now events are scheduled directly into the users' calendars and the status of the event is directly visual. This
provides a much better user experience. The calendar group view and file manager have been improved as well.

It was time for something new. We moved into a completely renewed office in the historical city centre of Den Bosch. It's a much larger and nicer office.

Group-Office 4.0 stable released!

After long series of beta testing it's finally complete!

The new features are:
- Search through the contents of files
- CardDAV support
- File locking in the files module

It's important to know that:
- the CMS module is no longer supported.
- We've dropped the Wordpress, PHPBB and formprocessor module.
- Vacation auto response is now handled by the sieve module. You need to install
the module and make sure that your IMAP server supports the sieve and managesieve protocol.
WARNING: Upgrading removes all active vacation auto replies
- SyncML datastores have been changed to: card, event and task

Group-Office 4.0 beta ready

It has taken a little bit longer then anticipated, but Group-Office 4.0 has finally been released!

You can download the Open-Source version at Sourceforge here:

Group-Office 4.0 beta almost ready

We've been working very hard on Group-Office 4.0 in the past year. We're almost ready to release the first beta version!

The most important changes in 4.0 are under the hood. We completely rewrote the PHP framework using the Model View Controller approach. On the interface it may seem like there are not so many changes but under the hood there's a shiny new engine! This get's us ready for the future and development will go much quicker. It will enable us to create a mobile interface for example. It's also a much more organized and more secure framework. At the moment extensive security testing is being performed by Cigitel.

Here's the list of changes in 4.0:

- Complete new MVC PHP framework
- Extensive security audit by Cigitel.
- Users are stored in the addressbook too.
- Ticket groups for better permission management.
- Plupload used for file uploads
- Gnupg support dropped. SMIME still supported.
- Filesearch module for deep searching file content. (Linux only).

- Swift Mailer upgraded to 4.1.5

Group-Office 3.7.5 is released!

This release has a lot of enhancements under the hood. Everything has been optimized to work well in very large environments such as more then 20.000 users. There are also some interesting new features such as Sieve mail filtering support, Public icalendar files for calendars, Shared IMAP accounts and better LDAP authentication connectivity. Group-Office 3.6.5 is released!

We are proud to announce the first public 3.6 release. This is an update with major feature enhancements!
This release focuses on interoperability with other systems. With WebDAV and CalDAV support the filesystem can be mounted like a network drive and you can access the calender data directly with a calendar application. It also supports meeting requests from other calendar applications now.
We moved the HTML templates, addresslists and newsletters into the community version as we think these features belong to the community version.
There are lots of other changes too, checkout the full changelog:

- Performance improvements in the new ExtJS 3.3 update.
- Performance improvements by combining a lot requests to the server and load as
little objects as possible.
- New bookmarks module.
- New calllog module for simple administration of phone calls.
- New module to schedule popup reminders for users or groups with a text page.

- Collapsible sections in all information panels.

Files
- New secure download link feature. Send a download link to someone by mail so
the receiver can download this file securely.

Calendar and Tasks
- Better support for calendar invitations from other clients such as Outlook and
Thunderbird.
- Drag and drop tasks in tasklists.
- Project calendars.
- Improved appearance.
- List view shows quarters.
- Show weekdays in the calender month view.
- Added categories to tasks and events.
- Automatic holidays to calendar.

E-mail
- Added e-mail templates, addresslists and newsletters to the community version.
We separated document templates and save e-mail as into new pro modules
- When composing an e-mail the user is no longer asked to select a template each
time. It starts with the user selected default template and can be changed in
the composer if necessary.
- Remind collapsed/expanded folders and accounts in the tree.
- Easier adding of attachments and inline images.
- Remind enabled CC/BCC fields.
- Option to always reply to a read confirmation and always request a read
confirmation.
- When a message is sent to an unknown recipient you can also add the e-mail
address to an existing contact. There's also an option to disable adding
unknown recipients.
- New e-mail portlet that can display e-mail folders in different tabs.
- Linking multiple messages is shown in a progress bar and handled in multiple
requests if this operation takes a long time.

Billing
- The scheduled call for quotes skips weekend and holidays.
- Added a total column for rows and a markup function.

New Group-Office version with full Blackberry support

We released version 3.5.28 today with full blackberry support. The installation instructions are written on the wiki here:

This version also fixes some small bugs:

Reset admin password from server manager was broken
Resources in the calendar only loaded when customfields module was installed
ActiveSync checks changes every minute now which decreases server load.

Group-Office 3.5.8 released!

We wrote a new fast IMAP library that doesn't require the php imap extension which could be very slow with remote IMAP servers. POP-3 support is no longer supported by the library because it's doesn't make much sense to use POP-3 with webmail anyway.

The startup time of Group-Office has been improved, there is support for Microsoft Office templates now and we improved the ticket system a lot.

ActiveSync support in Group-Office 3.4!

In this release we bring you a lot of small improvements across all modules and also Microsoft ActiveSync support so you can sync with any phone that supports ActiveSync. This means you can sync with iPhones, Nokia's, Google Android and of course Windows Mobile. Setting up synchronization with contacts, appointments, tasks and e-mail is really easy now!

We also improved the link browser and management of newsletters a lot. With the new advanced search in the addressbook you can select any dataset from the addressbook and save that search.

Group-Office in c't magazin!

Intermesh is proud to announce that Peter König has written an artikel in the second Januari issue of the German c't magazin. An introduction to this article can be found at:

This issue appeared in the stores in Germany at the the fourth of Januari. In the article serveral Groupware solutions are compared to eachother. Group-Office stands out between them in a very positive way! They are really exited about the way Group-Office handles editing online documents and synchronizes with Outlook and mobile devices.

Here are some quotes from the article:

Group-Office 3.3 is released!

We've been working a lot on performance for this release. We're now using compression on the files so the startup time of Group-Office is much shorter.

Enhancements on the permissions system deliver a much better overall performance
on large installations.

We've also added a lot of new features like:

Resource management to book meeting rooms for example
Enhanced project manager
Tickets or Helpdesk module
A lot of small enhancements everywhere in the system.

Group-Office 3.02-stable-11 released

A lot of enhancements were made like all the files at contacts, projects and companies are now accessible through logical paths in the file manager. Multiple sender aliases can be defined in the e-mail module and a lot of new features were added to the projects module.

Here is a full list of changes:

2009/07/08 3.02-stable-8
- Moved comments to Community version
- Project templates extended with subprojects and tasks
- A responsible user can be selected at a project and you can filter on that.
- Script to sync files with the filesystem was added.
- Changed lost password procedure. Now an e-mail is sent with a link to click on where the user can change the password. This method is more secure because with the old method is was possible to change someone's password if you knew the e-mail address.
- Changed files module. All the modules store the files in logical paths now.
eg. The files of a contact are in contacts/Addressbook name/S/Merijn Schering. All the filesystem entries are stored in the database now for better performance. The downside is that the database needs to be synced when changes on the filesystem are made by another program like Samba, FTP, WebDAV etc.
- Multiple e-mail sender aliases per mailbox can be defined now.
- Store a default e-mail template so it always shows on top.
- PDF export / mail function for the addressbook and billing module
- Projects treeview for easier navigation
- Add event to multiple calendars without sending an invitation
- A lot of Windows enhancements. libwbxml, zip and unzip work now and the
installation is improved for Windows too.
- GOTA didn't always report failure. Error handling is improved.

Todo+Cal+Sync now contains a full-featured calendar together with the advanced task management and the proven Synthesis SyncML client technology for synchronizing calendar, tasks and the iPhone address book, in a single iPhone application. The calendar supports colored tags to manage multiple calendars easily. Group-Office 3.01 is released!

Since the initial 3.0 release we have actively been developing new features. The most important new features since the first version are:

Group-Office can be setup as a complete mail server that handles multiple domains and vacation autoresponse
Importing and exporting of custom fields in the addressbook
Improved Synchronization. It now supports the Blackberry Funambol and Nexthaus client.
New timesheet in projects for easier time registration
Support for subprojects and more intutive display of project information
Save e-mail as tasks, files, appointments and notes option. When you save an e-mail as an appointment for example it automatically adds the recipients as participants and it saves attachments as files to the appointment.

Group-Office 3.0 is released!

After more then one and a half year of development time and testing it's finally there! We are proud to present Group-Office 3.0. Group-Office needed to be modernized. New web techniques have been developed and are ready to use in a professional platform such as Group-Office. We completely rewrote the interface of Group-Office. It feels much more like a desktop application now with drag and drop features, flexible information panels and much more!

Besides the eye candy and usability enhancements a lot has been improved under the hood too. The database adapter has been rewritten to use the improved MySQLi extension for better security. Data sent to the database is checked for attacks at the lowest level so it's impossible for developers to write insecure database queries when they use the Group-Office framework. A lot more has been done to improve security like insecure image blocking in the e-mail module. Group-Office 2.18 is released!

The most changes of this release are in the Professional version. We created a new Java Webstart program that makes file management easier for you.
When you edit a text document on your PC it will automatically save the document in Group-Office for you.
When you open a file a small program will load in the system tray that will monitor files for you. When they are modified it will send it back to Group-Office. It's that simple but it makes life much easier!

We renamed the reports module to address lists. The address lists module makes it easier to manage e-mailings or mailings by regular mail to users, contacts or companies.

Helpdesk module

There's also a new helpdesk module. It does not allow your customers to enter tickets directly. It is intended for internal use. An administrator can create tickets for particular users or departments. They get a popup or e-mail notification when new open tickets are created for or by them. The history of all tickets are stored with the tickets and can easily be searched on with the global search function. Customers can also be notified automatically of a tickets' status.

Group-Office Professional 2.17 is released!

Great improvements on usability have been made. In the top bar there's now a new search box that searches through all Group-Office modules. This makes it very easy to quickly find any item in Group-Office. The search mechanism is also used for linking items to eachother now which makes it much easier.

The help button takes you to the right page on the new documentation site for Group-Office. On this site users can also leave there comments to help the community.

Billing module

The new billing module for 2.17 is now available!
With the billing module you can create quotes, orders and invoices. The documents can either be printed or you can send them by e-mail as a PDF attachment. You can also enter your expenses. With the report tool you can easily see your income and expenses.
You can create as many books as you want and you can call them whatever you like.

Windows support

Group-Office 2.17 has full support for Windows servers now (Tested with XAMPP).

With the new reports module it's possible to present data from the addressbook and users. You can easily send newsletters by e-mail or regular mail to contacts with these reports. The reports can be exported to Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.Org directly.

Synchronization support more devices

The synchronization server supports the Nexthaus clients now. Nexthaus offers a very good Outlook SyncML client and a Blackberry client. With this addition Group-Office supports almost every mobile device for synchronization!

Link e-mail

It's now possible to link e-mail to contacts, companies, projects etc... Simply
select the e-mails you want to link and search for a contact for example and they
are stored at the contact.

New Software shop

We proudly announce that we just launched a new webshop system. With our new billing system and webshop CMS plugin the Software shop is much more efficient for you and for us.
Now Software will only be partly encoded. Only the Professional parts of Group-Office like the synchronization will be encoded.
The interface is easier to use and it's easier to maintain upgrades and updates. In the future an update client will be released so you can update your Group-Office with a mouseclick!

We have good news for you about Group-Office Professional. In this newsletter we want to let you know about how Group-Office is less expensive, performs faster, is more reliable and has improved synchronization support through it's SyncML server.

Improved SyncML support

We are proud to present an updated version of Group-Office Professional 2.15.
This update provides better SyncML support and it supports:

Palm OS
Symbian based phones (Nokia, Sony-Ericsson and more: http://www.symbian.com/phones/index.html)
Pocket PC
Outlook

Group-Office also supports task synchronization now and with the Synthesis clients (Palm and Pocket PC) you can synchronize a part of the calendar so you don't have to sync very old appointments or appointments that happen far in the future.
Exceptions in recurring events are synchronized now too (Funambol clients don't support this but the others do).

Lower upgrade price

We decided to lower the price for customers that already purchased Group-Office Professional once. You can upgrade Group-Office 2.12 and higher for only 129,- euro now! That is approximately 184,- US dollars (Please check with your bank to get an actual exchange rate).

Improved performance and stability

We optimized the graphical user interface to ask less from the server's capacity. By caching commonly used database queries and removing unnecessary database queries we improved the performance of Group-Office enormously in a medium to large user environment.

For a long time we have only fixed bugs in the application while we didn't add new functionality. High stability is therefore guaranteed.

Custom fields module

The custom fields that were available are now put in a separate module. With this module it's also possible to add custom fields in the projects module. Additionally you can select different types of data types so Group-Office will generate an appropriate control for data input.

Group-Office Professional 2.15 is released!

Group-Office is expanded with new powerful features such as resource booking in the calendar and a new powerful text editor with a spell checker.
It's now possible to link any item to another with a shortcut. This way you can view all related projects, appointments, tasks, companies etc. at a contact or company for example.

The calendar view is expanded with a new list view and the availability of your colleagues and meeting rooms can be checked easily. Group-Office also warns you about conflicts.

The synchronization is also tested with the Nokia N70 and other modern Nokia telephones with the Symbian Operating system.
Furthermore the usability is enhanced by small adjustments in through the whole program.

Group-Office Professional 2.14 released

The calendar and task views are much improved and it's now possible to attach files to projects, tasks, companies and contacts. Next to Outlook and Pocket PC 2003 Synchronization it's now also possible to synchronize your Nokia 9300 or Nokia 9500 phone.

A complete dutch manual has been released. Soon it will be translated into English.
We made some improvements on the administration side too. Administrators are really admins now. They have access to everything and they can create calendars easily for all users now.

A complete list of changes follows:

Sharable calendar views
The merged calendar view has a legend and colors per user are settable
Admin can create all the user calendars at once with right permissions
Todo templates for projects. When you create a project you can select a set of predefined todo's.
Complete new development toolkit
A whole new set of PHP classes designed to build Group-Office modules. Pages will be programmed in pure PHP. Output of menu's, tables, tabstrips treeviews will always look and behave the same. The classes make it possible to create pages without using a single line of HTML code.The list of standard controls:

- Treeview structures
- Activitity listings (Listing of related items)

The following modules have been completely recoded to the new framework:

The other modules have been made compatible with the new framework but need to be recoded someday.
Admins are really admins now. They have access to all the users calendars,
addressbooks etc. and can set up the permissions for them.
Recurring todo's. Todo's are stored in the same way as appointments and can recur now.
More controls over the todo sharing. They are shared in the same way calendars are shared.
Files can be attached to projects
Calendar and todo reminders are set for all calendar owners and participants
Out of office. New cron job PHP script to set vacation files for Sendmail Postfix or other mail server that uses .forward files. The Out of office message can be set at the email configuration page.
Calendar view is impoved. Overlapping events are now displayed next to eachother.
You can remove or modify one appointment of a recurring event.

Linux weeks in Vienna

Group-Office at Linux weeks in Vienna were a great success

We promoted Group-Office at the Linux weeks in Vienna (http://www.linuxwochen.at). It was a great success. Group-Office recieved a lot of interest from the business customers as well as the individual visitors!
We had a demo of the Sync4GO synchronization module there and people were amazed by it's simplicity.

As you can see we were sponsored by a local Macintosh supplier. By presenting Group-Office on a Mini-Mac and a PC synchronizing with Outlook we really showed how we make Linux, Apple and Windows work together!
