Calendar left click and right click

Talk about anything that doesn't fit in the other catagories :) (and of course is about Group-Office)

Calendar left click and right click

Postby gregoire » Thu Jan 15, 2009 1:33 pm

If I left click or right click just once in the agenda/calendar a dialogbox opens. I think this should be (IMHO);
left click once -> nothing. This should make it easier to drag and select a time.
left click, drag -> open dialog with selected time.
double left click -> open dialog box. This should be default since it's default in every software i worked with.
right click once -> zoom in, for example ;from month to week, day, hour. Could be in a popup menu.
right click once on apointment-> delete, add note (or whatever, a popup menu with some standard features)

I have some other idea's but I want to see if this gets picked up.

Maybe I should have posted this in de efatures and requests section. To me it seems like a natural thing but maybe not so.

Yes, this seems very natural. I will try to find some time to implement this.

Thank's for your reply. An issue I encountered and which prompted me to write this; when I wanted to delete and appointment I couldn't find a way to do it (at first). Then after searching and scanning the interface I noticed the option to delete was implemented next to the options to change the view from month to week. It said "delete" but it was not clear (in a singular way) what it deleted. It could be anything.

(I have a background in user interaction/reaction and interfaces. I don't design interfaces, I perfect them together with the programmer for the user to have a logical non-annoying user experience.)

But the event is highlighted right? It has a selected border.

Yes, but it is not that obvious.

Still, a popup menu to delete an appoinment is easier and also a more natural way.

What if you wanted to delete more appointments (not the ones that are repeating)? I noticed I can't select more appointments by holding down my ctrl and selecting several appointments.

The extjs forum someone mentioned this functionality was quite a challenge.
After that I did some browsing through the code. I noticed that it is implemented differently across the modules and not a separate file but coded into mostly the main panels.
Although it would be a useful way of doing things maybe ext-js.com will come up with a uniform way to handle this.
