Should the tasks start date be removed?

Talk about anything that doesn't fit in the other catagories :) (and of course is about Group-Office)

What do you think? Is the start date useful when we also have a creation timestamp?

Yes, it's useful

Look at how Toodledo implements this. Maybe some ideas are good to implement for GO.

I feel the main point is that a task by concept should not have a start date. The only relevant date for tasks is the due date. You can start doing the task whenever you want - the main concern is that you complete the task before the due date.

Yes, I think a task should have a start date.

I agree with that, this is the difference to an event which can only be done at the time the event is planned, not before and not after.

BUT:

There are things that have to be done when ever you want between date x and date y, and by concept these are tasks. And its helpful, when they are not in the tasklist month or years before.
(e.g. bring the dog to the vet for yearly vaccination sometime between April and June)

Yes, but that can be done with clever filters like:
  • Show active tasks
    Show overdue
Show tasks for the next 7 days
    etc.

why do you want to remove an existing and well working function that works fine for some of us?

It would be useful to set the default start date to creation date. So for Those who do not need/want a start date everything is fine and the others can change it.

Because it confuses a lot of users and a lot of people think the start date is unnecessary. But this poll isn't making this an easy decision...

So sometimes the solution is quite easy - leave it as it is.... :D

I think if you set the default start date to the creation date nobody is confused any more. And users (like me) who like to use this can change it simply.

The default start date is already the creation date.

Maybe there should be a hint in the documentation, that by default the creation date is the start date.
But you are always able to change the start date, to create tasks like "buying christmas gifts" in July, but let it start in November. :D

The default start date is already the creation date.
yes, if you create the task with the "add" button

but if you do it the short way like this:
Tasks1.jpg
Tasks1.jpg (80.23 KiB) Viewed 3906 times
it ends up like this:
Tasks2.jpg
Tasks2.jpg (110.57 KiB) Viewed 3906 times
can you please change this?

i do not understand???

it is still faulty

if you create a task "the short way", with a due date X the default start date is also X (start date = due date)
