More CalDAV discussion :-)

Talk about anything that doesn't fit in the other catagories :) (and of course is about Group-Office)

More CalDAV discussion :-)

Postby gmork » Tue Mar 01, 2011 11:22 am

Hi,

GO3 is still one of the best solutions of the groupware systems on the market. I have tried almost the all the others (open-exchange, zimbra, zafara, egroupware, kerio, icewarp, etc). And now I am waiting until the CardDAV implementation of the sabredav to be made, to be fully satisfied :-)

But GO3 will still missing some good DESKTOP client, so for my customers I have found good solution:

http://www.emclient.com/?lang=en

This client can handle almost every technology that you can imagine:

http://www.emclient.com/features

And it works well with GO3

I have to say almost .... Let me explain what I am talking about ....
We want to use Em client with some GO3 users ... So you will connect email via IMAP account, next you connect your calendar via caldav - new in GO3.6, contact can not be synchronize due missing carddav sopport in the GO3 (sabredav implementation missing) - but this should be done soon , I hope :-)

And now the problem, problem is, that exporting huge calendar (let say 5000 entries and more) by go3 caldav to EM CLIENT - calendar access is terrible slow, caldav is still refreshing again and again if you change something ....

So I have tried to change caldav server to another system (davical) and there huge calendar working perfectly with em client ...
This slow performance have almost all the windows clients that I have tried, for example Thunderbird lighting...

It is important to say, that on my Macbook pro, connection to the go3 caldav via Ical is working good and fast, I have expected to be slow...

I'm supprosed it's slow because GO only exports one month of calendar entries to a caldav client. I've never noticed slow performance using thunderbird.

I will show you videocast of the performance issues across the Windows, MacOS and linux clients ... If I am using TB on the macbook, or ical, it is ALSO not slow :-)
But TB on the windows or mentioned EmClient is really useless, bacause of refresing all the time ....

It looks like emclient handles CalDAV very slow doesn't it? Maybe you can take a look with wireshark to see what it's doing.
