Files > Activate Sharing subfolders issues

Talk about anything that doesn't fit in the other catagories :) (and of course is about Group-Office)

Files > Activate Sharing subfolders issues

Postby peteinlux » Wed Jul 18, 2012 3:16 pm

This is an issue we experienced today:

In the files module, i have a structure that looks more or less like this:

Code: Select all

+ Root
        + Folder 1.0 / Shared folder
                 + Folder 1.1
                          + Folder 1.1.1 / Shared folder
                                   + Folder 1.2.1
                 + Folder 1.2
        + Folder 2.0
                 + Folder 2.1
I am sharing Folder 1.0 with users A & B. Both A & B can see it's contained sub structure. Now user A activates sharing on Folder 1.1.1 and gives access to user C. What happens is user B can no longer see that particular folder. I can, because I am an administrator. The problem is that I already gave user B access to the structure containing the resource named Folder 1.1.1. User A wanted to share this resource in addition with users C, but did not want to take the right of B to access it.

Has anyone seen this behavior, Is anyone feeling the same way about it? If not please help me understand....

If they are allowed to share the behavior you describe is expected.

I think it should not be possible to share folders if you don't have manage permissions on the folder.

That makes little sense and causes confusion, someone without administrative privileges might simply want to share a subfolder with another person, but by doing so he would take away the right from someone who had been given access by the administrator

Yes, there's no way around that.
