Can we get the apply button back?

Postby rosetta » Fri Dec 10, 2010 6:03 pm

What is the rationale on removing the apply buttons; I liked them a lot :o

GO being web based I like to click the apply button now and then during work, for example when working on notes, to be sure that my changes are saved.

When adding a new company you can not enter employees until the company is created. Now we have to click OK and open it again..

What about reintroducing the apply buttons?

I also do not understand, why the APPLY-button was deleted.
OK and Close make no sense, as people know just the cross on the right upper corner to close a window.
Further more GO should better ask really to close, if you made any changes.
At the moment the changes are lost.

That is really rubbish!!!

Most people are confused by Ok and Apply. We have Apply or Save buttons on places where it really makes sense. On most dialogs the Apply button is not really necessary IMHO.

I would like to have it back at least on notes...

I often use notes in meetings, and like to save at regular intervals to make sure my notes are secure. Now I have to click OK and open the note again.

Ok, that makes sense indeed. Please make suggestions of dialogs where it would make sense to bring them back.

On the calendar when you create a new aevent, I think it should be changed to "Save" and "apply" and "cancel" After the event is created "Ok" and "Close" are ok, but if it is just "Ok" and no Apply button when you are first making an event, what happens is you have to create the event and then hit ok, and then the event closes. In order to add any files or links you have to reopen the event. It would nice to be able to just hit "Apply, and then add files and links with the new event still open.

Question; should the apply button just save/submit or save/submit/clear form? In notes the first is handy, when adding users the second is more handy.

Sorry, I did not get an notification of the changes of this topic....

Standard in most applications is OK and CLOSE.
OK means "save and close window".
CLOSE means "do not save any changes and close window". This is the same like the cross in the right upper corner.
Normally if you change a value in a window (does not depend on the entry type like calendar, address etc.) a new button should occur: APPLY.
APPLY means "save (and do not close window)".
Therefore APPLY indicates a changed state of the entry, you are just working on.
If you work on an entry and you have to do lots of changes, it is sometimes better to save, when you changed some values. If you loose connection, the changes are saved. Otherwise (at the moment) you can only save your changes by using OK, but that means, that the window is closed as well.
Therefore I suggest to have either two buttons OK and CLOSE, and a dynamically occuring APPLY button, i values were changed, or (if not possible) just the three buttons OK, APPLY, CLOSE.

Thanks, Markus
