Free/Paid Hosting that can run GO

Postby dkittell » Sat Jun 18, 2005 2:41 am

Lets just edit this thread.
I'm working on a list of providers and the drawbacks of each that GO can run on.

Group-Office Professional Hosting
http://group-office.com
€ 10 per user per month
Hosting at the servers from Intermesh means:
* Group-Office Professional
* Always the latest version of Group-Office Professional
* Daily backup of E-mail, Database and files
* E-mail address per user
* Spam filter and Anti-Virus
* 99,9% Uptime

HostGator
http://hostgator.com
* Unlimited Disk Space
* Unlimited Bandwidth
* 99.9% Uptime Guarantee
* 45 Day Money Back Guarantee
* 24/7/365 Technical Support
* $100 Google AdWords Credit

XO Communications
http://xo.com
Custom built web/email servers.
Great for stability.

1 and 1
http://1and1.com
Custom built web/email servers. IMAP/POP is available.
Runs with little or no changes to the code.
Make sure to use US side of company some have had problems with the UK side.

Mac OS 10.4 (Client Version)
Every mac is capable out of the box to be able to run Apache.
MySQL is an install that is needed but with not much time invested you can run GO as an IntraNet rather smoothly.

For non-Developers, if you know of some that work great message me and I can add it in here.

Lonesome Walker has provided this resource:

http://www.office-and-it.de
They offer customized GO-Installations, also customized webhosting for a fair price.

WolkeSieben has provided this resource:

Specially for Germany I have an offer to hosting Group-Office.
For the future I plan a totaly free platform for families (with Group-Office).
Any other groups will get a good offer for hosting Group-Office at http://www.x28.de

Just an update....

XO Communications now offers IMAP for email

As I work for/with XO Communications if someone wants to try it out for free let me know and I can arrange an admin account. EDIT: I no longer work for XO Communications

I recently built 2 complete modules for XO Communications for GO and things are running great so far running on their servers.

Both are internal systems

One is comparable to an internal order management system and the other is comparable to a trouble ticket system but has functionality that syncs up with a program called Remedy

Added HostGator to the list as good hosts.

I will say though nothing beats running GO on your own dedicated Debian system.

Great Resources:

I can't speak for anyone else but one thing that typically is true is that if it's free it has it's own caveats.

If you can get it to work on a free hosting provider let us know.

Thank you for the list! I was thinking of signing up with IX Web Hosting, do you guys know if GO will run with them as well, as they aren't on the list. I think it does but I'm not sure whether my assumption is true or false.

There are many hosting solutions that will run GO, this list is just a small collection of the ones that have been tried and will work without problems.

Typically if the server is Unix (Debian Base Preferred) you shouldn't have a single problem but there has been some Unix and Windows hosting that doesn't work as nicely as we all would like.

If you are getting a hosting account with the purpose of using it for GO as your primary reason to get the hosting account then I'd get a month to month account before paying prepaid that way at worst you are only out a little amount of money in most cases.

I hope this helps, if you find that host to work well let us know.

Is there any host that supports GO Pro from start?
I have absolutly no technical experience for server and script installation, so I'm searching for a host on which I can have my GO Pro installation and I only need to pay Intermesh their part and host their part. I don't want to be billed by user and I don't want to install anything my self.

What do you say about his host?

Is there any Intermesh prefered hosting company?

Sorry for the late response to this post, but I wanted to thank you all for the list of compatible web hosts. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to web hosting (via GO) so it's really super helpful! I think the only conundrum I'm running into is actually choosing a host from the list provided. Speaking of web hosts, is there a way to set up separate e-mail addresses (through the domain/web host) that send out e-mail blasts and don't accept replies. I'd like to utilize it for an email marketing campaign. Thanks, everybody!

I see that there aren't any free hosts that can run GO on your list. Does that mean that you haven't found any free hosts that can run GO or there aren't any that you would mention in here. I am currently looking at HostGator but I would first like to try it out on a free service. Thanks!

Since I asked question here some time ago and didn't get any answer, I'll help others.
I searched for host, couldn't find one so I picked virtual private server from webtropia.
http://www.webtropia.com/en/home/virtual-server.html

It's a german host, took VPS-M, it's probably overkill for GroupOffice Pro and mine 25 users, but it's 20€ which isn't much, and it works. :)
