view office files online (new GO)

Postby lucanet » Thu Oct 18, 2018 11:36 am

Some webmails have the possibility to view attachments that are Office documents (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) and PDF on the browser, it's very practical.

One of the ways is using the free Microsoft service which lets you view office files online, such as "powerpoint online", etc, which is a basic viewer they offer. Probably easy to integrate.

Hi, Merijn

Cool, but Libreoffice has a cost not all can affort, etc. the MS service is totally free. I can get details if you want, can you consider it? Afterlogic webmail has it. Lets one view Office docs via web easily and free.

Thanks.

Collabora is free - all you need is a server.

Hi, guys

Thanks for tips.

The only version of collabora that's free is the home edition, up to 20 users, which can't be used in commercial setting. It's also full of bugs as it's the dev-release, not the commercial one.

The commercial one has this pricing:

Besides, imagine, addiing 1 server just to be able to view PDF files and Office files inside webmail? Theres' a free MS service that does this, other webmails like afterlogic use it.

Our suggestion is for GO to use it too.

Thanks!

That's not correct. I assume you are meaning the CODE Edition which is in fact free and has some limitations:

"CODE is ideal for home users who want to use their own online office suite, but a warning appears as soon as it looks like it is being used in a company - i.e. when more than twenty documents are being edited at the same time or ten users are working with it at the same time."

We're using it without problems.

No, editing, creating, viewing, printing Office files is the goal and it works.

>> Theres' a free MS service that does this, other webmails like afterlogic use it.

Funny - please explain, what OS and PHP online office solution Microsoft offers for free? As far as I know, there's only an office file viewer integrated in afterlogic.

Besides - Group-Office isn't just a webmail client - it's a fully functional Groupware with a fully functional online office solution. So please do not compare apples with pears here.

Thanks for reply, Peter.

That's it, it's free for non-commercial usage.

The MS viewer is what we wanted. Just to be abe to easily view Office files, PDFs, etc. directly in browser. Afterlogic also has its commercial version (Aurora, I think), which has colaboration, etc. Anyway, Im a fan of Group-Office too :)

Just a small suggestion, perhaps could include the free MS viewer service that could work out of the box. Some customers miss that, for us and for many users it would be enough.

Thanks.
