Group-Office Version 26.1 Preview

I find it particularly difficult not to (ab)use the old Game of Thrones meme, so here we go: brace yourselves! Group-Office 26.1 is coming.

Milestone Reached

One huge milestone has been reached. The main layout has been rewritten from scratch in our GOUI framework. This will make the application as a whole a lot more lightweight, more mobile friendly and (for us most importantly) more maintainable.

New Features

New Main Layout

• Module management is more flexible. Each user can set their own favourite modules and they can set their own order.
• The notification system has been rewritten from scratch. This will probably be outlined in a later blog post.

My Account

This window uses the available screen space more efficiently, thus making previously well-hidden options more prominent. Also, the per-module settings have been moved into a more visible category.

System Settings

The System Settings screen has been redesigned and rewritten in GOUI. The main improvements are:

• System task management has been simplified.
• Module management has a more sensible layout in which modules are grouped by category instead of license type.
• Module settings are editable from within module settings, thus creating less clutter in the main system settings window.

New and Rewritten Modules

• The leave days module has been deprecated in favor of the new 'Absence module'.
• Time registration was rewritten for 25.0. As per 26.1 the approval module gives a manager a workflow with which to approve or disapprove time entries.
• Several existing modules had their ExtJS3 code refactored into GOUI. Most of the client side code for these modules are only available in the system settings, but the Business module pulled some screens out of system settings.

When it's Done

We are on the verge of rolling out 26.1 on our own testing environment. In time, we will start releasing Group-Office 26.1 into the wild. As usual, keep an eye on this blog, our LinkedIn profiles and our Mastodon channel.
